about

"Come With Me"
Tune and lyrics by JoAnna Farrer. (The story is based on an old Irish folktale.)

Instrumental section tune: "Far An Robh Mi ’N Raoir" [Where I Was Last Night] - traditional, Scottish.

lyrics

A maiden fair one windswept night
was walking cross the shore
the stars shone in her raven hair
no wedding ring she wore.
She’d gone into the waves at night
to shed her tears alone
when a ghostly knight on a storm-grey steed,
rode out upon the foam:

CHORUS:
Will you come with me, my pretty love,
will you ride out to the sea?
To a castle of the deepest blue
where you’ll rule beside me.
For a fairer nor a truer love
these waves have never known
and the tide shall be your bed of gold
where the rivers find their home.
-

She asked “What could you want with me?
What treasure do you seek?
My heart is broke by another love
no bride’s bed will I keep.
I wander o’er the ragged shore
as restless as the tides,
and my dowry’s but a wounded smile
and everything it hides.”

CHORUS

She’s up in to the saddle now
she’s left the barren land.
With none here to remember her,
but just an old grey man -
who lost the love one windswept night
of a quiet maiden fair,
who went out into the dark tide,
with the stars still in her hair
